Learning at Xaypanya

Strong foundations. Wider opportunities.

Learning at Xaypanya develops from Nursery through Secondary, with the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) curriculum at the core.

Alongside that foundation, students are given additional opportunities to develop English, science, technology, robotics, creativity, digital skills and practical problem-solving.

Our learning journey

A connected pathway from early years to growing independence

Nursery

Nursery

Confidence, curiosity and first foundations

Nursery focuses on creating a safe, caring and stimulating environment where young children can begin building confidence, communication, independence and curiosity.

Learning is play-based and activity-rich, with early exposure to language, numbers, movement, creativity and social development.

The priority is not to rush formal academics, but to help children become comfortable learners who are ready for the next stage.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten

Preparing children for the foundations of school learning

Kindergarten builds on the confidence developed in Nursery and introduces more structured learning in a developmentally appropriate way.

Children strengthen early literacy, numeracy, communication, creativity and classroom routines while continuing to learn through play, exploration and practical activities.

English is introduced progressively to build familiarity and confidence.

By the end of Kindergarten, our aim is for children to be increasingly ready for the transition into Primary school.

Primary

Primary

Building strong academic foundations

Primary is where students progressively strengthen their knowledge across the MoES curriculum while developing greater independence as learners.

Core learning in Lao language, mathematics, science and other subjects is complemented by English development and opportunities to explore practical learning through science, technology, robotics and Future Makers activities.

Students are encouraged to ask questions, communicate ideas, work with others and apply what they learn rather than relying only on memorisation.

Secondary

Secondary

Growing knowledge, independence and capability

Secondary students continue building on the MoES curriculum while developing greater academic responsibility, critical thinking and independence.

As students mature, they are encouraged to deepen their understanding, communicate with greater confidence and connect classroom learning with practical challenges.

English, digital capability, science, technology and Future Makers activities provide additional opportunities for students to develop skills relevant to further study and the changing world around them.

MoES curriculum

Our academic foundation

Xaypanya follows the curriculum of the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).

The national curriculum provides the core academic structure across the school.

Xaypanya’s additional programmes are designed to strengthen and extend that foundation rather than replace it.

This allows students to maintain a strong Lao educational foundation while benefiting from broader learning opportunities.

English at every stage

Building confidence over time

  • 01

    Nursery & Kindergarten

Familiarity, listening, simple communication and confidence.

  • 02

    Primary

Vocabulary, reading, speaking, understanding and more structured language development.

  • 03

    Secondary

Greater communication, comprehension, application and confidence in using English across different contexts.

Where appropriate, English can also be reinforced through science, technology, robotics and project-based learning.

Future Makers across the learning journey

Learning by doing

Future Makers adds practical experiences alongside the core curriculum and develops progressively with age.

  • Early Years

Creative construction, exploration, problem-solving and simple making activities.

  • Primary

Simple Machines, Robotics, Coding, science activities and structured challenges.

  • Secondary

More advanced Robotics, Electronics, Digital Skills, Engineering Thinking and Project-based Learning.

The goal is not simply to expose students to technology.

It is to help them become more confident in thinking, creating, experimenting and solving problems.

Learning beyond the textbook

Knowledge becomes more powerful when students use it

Alongside classroom teaching, Xaypanya aims to create opportunities for students to learn through:

  • experiments
  • practical activities
  • building and making
  • robotics
  • projects
  • teamwork
  • presentations
  • problem-solving
  • creativity
  • school events and showcases

These experiences help students connect academic knowledge with the world around them.

Teachers who keep learning

Better learning starts with teachers who continue to develop

Xaypanya believes that improving student learning also means continuing to invest in our teachers.

We are strengthening professional development across teaching practice, English, digital capability and the use of technology in education so that our teachers can continue developing alongside the changing needs of students.

New tools and technology are valuable only when they support better teaching and learning.

Our focus is therefore not simply on introducing technology, but on helping teachers use it purposefully and confidently.

Understanding student progress

Learning is a journey we follow together

Student progress is developed and observed through classroom learning, assessment, participation and practical activities.

As Xaypanya continues to strengthen its academic and digital systems, we aim to provide families with increasingly clear information about their child’s learning, progress and development.

We value communication between teachers, students and families as an important part of supporting each learner.

Looking forward

Helping shape what comes next

Xaypanya is building on more than three decades of educational experience with a clear ambition to remain at the forefront of learning.

We want students and teachers to benefit from new ideas, new tools and new approaches that are practical, purposeful and appropriate for our school.

Through Future Makers, robotics, science, digital capability and continued development in teaching and learning, we aim not simply to respond to changes in education, but to explore new possibilities and help shape what modern learning can look like in our community.

We do not wait for change to arrive — we help shape it.
